Day 5
Ankara Memories & People 2 / Emek, Bahçeli, Botanik
Experiences with Zenit11
(aka The Other Kalashnikov Soviets made)
Day 5, I have complicated thoughts about this film. I can't say I enjoyed it but otherwise is also not possible. First 15 shots were like my me time and my efort to do decent street photography but old guy wasn't on the same page with me and started to wind the film awkwardly. So let it go and didn't cared for the rest of the film until we went to Botanik Park with the girls. I was curious about the result since I thought film is not winding properly but it turned out it was. Film cameras tire me out. I mean, I enjoy it but the result is not satisfying the effort.
Previously on my Zenit Experiences
Day 1, a couple weeks ago, I got my first film camera, a Zenit11 lying sick and tired, as a gift. I fixed some issues it had then did my first shooting with the old "Kalashnikov". Although it has it's own joy I still had my prejudice against film cameras, film is dead. There's no meaning forcing it yet you still can have your time with good ol' memories
Day 2, my mind didn't change about my prejudice. Somehow the old guy started to annoy me as it makes horizontal lines on photos. At least they're nearly centred so on vertical photos if I'd ever wanted to symetrical shots and by chance it occurs, the photo may look a bit cool. Also on the early hours of the day I bought a 28 mm wide lens for the Kalashnikov and used it for the rest of the day instead of the 58mm default lens it had..
Day 3, it wasn't actually a day or 2. Probably a week but I ain't gonna change the title or say day 3 to 10. Because why should I. Anyways, I started the film in somewhere near Batıkent, in Ankara ofc, and did a couple "belly shots" (when u don't use the visor and shoot the photo at your belly level to not get noticed) in metro. They came up a bit oblique and I can't fix it since the Zenit keeps stratching the film. Film is an expensive business, so I don't shoot so often anymore. Things will go slowly from now on.
Day 4, first shots were simple fun stuff then things get pretty good with the day which I went to Ayrancı Antika Pazarı again. Good memories and good shots that make me satisfy. Film cameras can be good options for memories but it's still dead for me when it comes to street and mostly portrait photography with all the effort and expense it requires. Better luck next time Zenit.
